Local celebrity Jo Cuthill opened what promises to be an exiting space for Canarian art fans.

The new gallery “CanArt”, which features a main salon, bar and café, opened for business on Saturday afternoon with a champagne reception and exhibition by a selection of artists from around Europe. Jo Cuthill who presided over the opening ceremony said: “it was a fantastic afternoon and the champagne made it go off with a bang. We have had a lot of interest in the exhibition which has work by some really talented artists. I was particularly taken with Olli Gerard’s “White Noise” installation in the main salon. He’s created something there that really impacts on the space and has a positive effect on everyone who views it. Hetta Richard’s “Long Way Round” series has also aroused a lot of interest and a number of collectors have already enquired about the possibility of buying this body of work”.

Jo Cuthill herself is no stranger to artistic accomplishment having successfully painted and sold numerous key pieces over the years and had this to say on her plans for future work: “I have a project on the go at the moment which is in the very early stages of development. I don’t want to say too much about it at this stage but I have a feeling that it will be well received. I have spoken to the gallery’s owners and all going well hope to exhibit during the summer”.

There are also plans for a website to showcase the talents of local artists as well as regular “show what you bring” nights to allow anyone to show their work to the general public.

For the time being though the gallery in Maspalomas is displaying work by Olli Gerrard, Hetta Richards Johnny Roundurst and Julietta Fernandez and is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 8pm and Saturday from10am to 2.30pm.
