KUA Linemen Victorious at Statewide Rodeo

Kissimmee, FL (PRWEB) April 7, 2005 -- Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) lineworkers brought home high marks and two trophies from the fifth annual Florida Lineman's Competition on April 2 in Tallahassee, Fla.
Twenty-two teams from more than a dozen of Florida's electric utilities gathered in Tallahassee to demonstrate the safety, skill and education of electric linemen.
There are two levels of competition within the rodeo: journeyman and apprentice. The journeyman teams consist of three members -- two climbers and a ground person. A qualified journeyman has more than four years of experience within the electric utility trade. An apprentice lineworker has four or fewer years of experience and competes as an individual.
The journeyman competition consisted of five timed events: bell replacement, crossarm change out, hurtman rescue, wire down and lamp and photocell replacement. The apprentice competition also included five timed events.
KUA's two journeyman teams scored 500 and 494 points respectively out of 500 possible points. One team earned a second place trophy in the crossarm change out event.
Chris Ketner placed fifth overall in the apprentice competition with a perfect score of 500 points. His efforts earned him a trophy.
KUA's journeyman teams were made up of Aaron Haderle, Logan Murphy and David Wolfe as well as Jamie Boswell, Mike Fulmore and Luis Santiago. Dustin Kelley and Chris Ketner competed in the apprentice competition.
The 2006 rodeo will be held in Kissimmee and hosted by KUA.
