Dallas, TX (PRWEB) April 9, 2005 -- At the 2005 NSTA National Convention, Ohaus presented an Honorary Gustav Ohaus Award to Dale Rosene of Marshall Middle School in Marshall, Michigan. Too occupied with his teaching and programs to nominate himself, and too committed to science education not to be recognized, Dale Rosene of Marshall Middle School in Michigan has proven to be the kind of teacher Ohaus is proud to acknowledge.

This award, presented this year in place of the traditional Gustav Ohaus Award, recognizes the achievements of a particular educator whose programs have demonstrated a commitment to innovation in science teaching over the course of their careers and have made significant enhancements to their students educational experience.

Dale Rosene has been a science educator at Marshall Middle School for over 35 years. Mr. Rosene is the founder of the Alaska Great Lakes Project, a science program in which groups of 65 students travel to Alaska for a three week learning adventure. What began as a research project in 1990 in response to the Exxon Valdez oil spill has evolved over the last 15 years from an environmental project to a hands-on, comprehensive science experiment as well as an opportunity for students' personal growth and self discovery.

Mr. Rosene received his Bachelors of Science degree in General Science and Physical Science in 1969 and his Masters of Arts in Science Education in 1971, both from Michigan State University.

He has been published in eight NOVA Teachers Guide to television programs and Science Scope, the NSTA middle level journal. Mr. Rosene has also served in various professional organizations over the course of his career. He is the founder, former president and Board member of the National Middle Level Science Teachers Association and currently sits on the Board of the Michigan Science Teachers Association.
