Massachusetts Native Brings His Cause Home 16,000-Mile Cross Country Trek Raises Money for Cancer Victims

You can find more information on how to help by calling (720) 470-9346 or by going to the event website at TheBigWalk.org.

Westfield, MA (PRWEB) April 9, 2005 -- When John Buoniconti says he is going to take some steps to help fight cancer, he isnt joking. On March 26, 2005, John started a 3 year, 16,000 mile charity walk (The Big Walk) in Augusta, ME to raise money to help uninsured and underinsured cancer patients pay for life saving treatments. John is going to walk continuously through the 48 contiguous US states and Washington DC. His goal is to raise a minimum of $5 million to support the non-profit he started called Big Johns Team.

Johns parents, Gayle and John Buoniconti (both Springfield, MA natives) died from cancer before he was ten years old. This is part of Johns motivation to take on this remarkable journey. The other part of Buonicontis motivation comes from the fact that there are millions of uninsured cancer patients that need help paying for their treatments.

John was raised in Westfield, MA by his aunt (Ruth Fife) after his parents lost their battle with cancer. He will be walking into Westfield, MA on April 30, 2005. He will not only be walking into his hometown, but he will be doing it in grand style. His family is putting together a parade to welcome him home, which will begin at 10am the day he enters town. During his one week stay in Western MA, Big Johns Team will also be holding several fundraising events ranging from a charity concert in Springfield, a 5k walk at Stanley Park the morning of May 7th and his Fourth Annual Golf Tournament at East Mountain Country Club that afternoon. Information on all of these events can be found by clicking on the events tab on the Big Walk website (thebigwalk.org).

John has gotten support from his presenting sponsor Event 360, an event logistics company. Karma Media has jumped on board as his exclusive multi-media and PR sponsor. The US Jaycees will also be holding events throughout the country to help raise funds for this much needed cause. While he is gaining support with each mile, he is still in need of many more monetary sponsors. He will, in return, put his sponsors names and logo's on the events website, event T-shirts, event fliers and the support RV which will follow John along his trek. Individual contributors will be able to specify the state account that their donation will be allocated, thus allowing BJT to help cancer patients in every state. John is also looking for support from the media not only to get more sponsors and contributions, but also to let cancer patients know that there is an organization out there that may be able to help them.
