Brad Steels Mute Mixes Cattle Mutilations with the War on Terror for Exceptional Fiction

When author Brad Steel set about collecting data for his new thriller Mute, he ventured out to investigate real scenarios of actual cattle mutilations. Along the way he extensively researched the many facets of MUTEs content, from BSE and other prion diseases to little-known intricacies of veterinary medicine, even interviewing real-life cattle mutilation investigators and observing first-hand autopsies being performed by pathologists.

(PRWEB) April 8, 2005 -- What Brad discovered was otherworldly. Mutilated animals that have been observed fit the classic patterns of clean "cookie cutter" incisions and in most cases no blood is to be found near or on the carcass.

Although based on real research Brads book is fictional.

A good part of the book takes place in Canada in Victoria and on Vancouver Island," Steel says. The book's heroine, Kat Francis, runs a veterinary clinic in West Saanich and grew up in Oak Bay. I love Victoria, and it turned out to be the perfect setting. As the story begins, Kat's had a trying six months to say the least, and I send her sea kayaking in the Broken Group Islands near Port Alberni. Of course, the opposite happens. She ends up treading eight-degree ocean water."

In MUTE, Mad Cow and mysterious cattle mutilations combine as part of a desperate attempt to win the war on terror. Steels lovable protagonist has already won the hearts of many readers, the rave reviews beginning to pop up on sites like Amazon.ca and Toronto's Sceneandheard.ca.

I havent heard anything negative about the book," Steel says. When media reviewers like it, thats excellent, but what I really love is when ordinary readers I've never met get all excited. That blows my mind."

Brad Steels tour starts in Victoria with a reading at the Douglas Street Chapters, then continues on to events in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Ontario, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax.

Bio Brief:
Born in Edmonton, Canada in 1969, Brad Steel is a veteran entrepreneur, former magazine publisher, and journalist. Immediately after graduating from journalism college-in the hope of evading small-town newspaper jobs-Brad and two former classmates launched their own satire publication. Over the following year, though the project evolved from a free local tabloid to a paid magazine with province-wide distribution, it never made a cent. To survive, Brad moonlighted at a city hospital photographing unusual" medical cases and procedures in the O.R. and morgue.

Then in 1993, Brad founded an advertising business-which he continues to run today. While crafting his novels, Brad Steel has written award-winning articles for top national and regional business magazines. Brad lives in central Edmonton in a little old house that is remarkably tasteful on the inside-mainly because hes married to an interior designer.
