Author and religious studies professor Dr. Mary Evelyn Tucker is a leading voice in a new eco-religious movement. Its mission is to mobilize the world's religions to help solve our global ecological crisis. Tucker is the founder of The Forum on Religion and Ecology, the largest international multireligious project of its kind. Together with Harvard Universitys Center for the Study of World Religions, Tucker spearheaded a ten-conference series on World Religions and Ecology in which more than a thousand scholars, religious leaders, and environmental activists participated. The findings can be found disseminated through several critically acclaimed books, distributed through Harvard University Press. Among them, Hinduism and Ecology: The Intersection of Earth, Sky, and Water (2000) and Confucianism and Ecology: The Interrelation of Heaven, Earth, and Humans (1998). On Saturday, April 16, 7:30pm at 38 Cameron in Cambridge, Dr. Tucker will be speaking about this eco-religious movement and how the worlds religious traditions are expanding their vision so that the spiritual health of humanity and the biological health of the planet are considered indivisible. She will also be highlighting findings from the Harvard conference series. This talk is presented by Voices from the Edge speakers series, sponsored by What Is Enlightenment? magazine. The series features individuals who are on the leading edge of their field in science, politics, philosophy, spirituality, business, and the arts.
