SourceOne to Market and Distribute ShimadzuÂ?s Cordless Mobile Star II X-ray System

SourceOne Healthcare Technologies, Inc., and Shimadzu Medical Systems, a division of Shimadzu Precision Instruments, Inc. (Shimadzu Corp. SHMZF), today announced the companies have signed a contract giving SourceOne nationwide rights to market and distribute an innovative and affordable mobile x-ray system specifically manufactured by Shimadzu for SourceOne.

SourceOne is one of the nation’s leading distributors of medical-imaging systems, equipment, radiographic consumable supplies, and services to healthcare facilities. Shimadzu Medical Systems manufactures a broad range of diagnostic systems that are used in all areas of clinical applications, including CT, Digital Subtraction Angiography, Cardiovascular Systems, Digital Radiography and Fluoroscopy Systems, Ultrasound, and General Radiography.

Under terms of the agreement, Shimadzu will manufacture the mobile x-ray unit for SourceOne who will distribute the system nationally as the Mobile Star II. The Mobile Star II is a cordless mobile X-ray system designed to perform radiography examinations in remote locations away from a traditional radiography department. The Mobile Star II’s high frequency inverter X-ray generator efficiently produces high-quality images anywhere, any time, with minimum radiation exposure to the patient.

“The signing of SourceOne as a national distribution partner will afford Shimadzu the ability to fully-expand penetration into untapped sectors of the market,” said Tom Kloetzly, national sales manager, Shimadzu Medical Systems. “Our goal of expanding sales in the U.S. marketplace in 2005 is dependent on continuing to strengthen and expand the reach of our sales and service distribution network.” Kloetzly added, “SourceOne has more than 100 sales executives, dedicated inside sales representatives, customer express representatives, and an impressive 700 Field Service Engineers (FSE) that are strategically-located throughout the country.”

Shimadzu, who has partnered with SourceOne before said the newly-signed agreement between the two companies will open up access to key relationships with SourceOne’s extensive and long-established National and Government Accounts.

“Clearly, SourceOne has a proven track record in reaching these critical markets,” said Kloetzly. “We look forward to leveraging our business partnership with SourceOne to ensure that Shimadzu becomes more fully engaged in pursuing the opportunities within the critical civilian, government, and military markets.”

“We are equally excited to forge this business partnershp with Shimadzu,” said Richard Pacenta, vice president of marketing, SourceOne Healthcare Technologies, ”Shimadzu has been a productive business partner of ours in the past and we expect that our new agreement to market the Mobile Star II will be mutually beneficial, and more importantly, broaden our X-ray portfolio for our customers who are looking for efficient, affordable and reliable mobile X-ray systems. Combining the Mobile Star II with our broad product portfolio including computed radiography products, PACS and imaging accessories, we now are able to provide turnkey digital imaging solutions for the intensive care unit where high quality imaging and fast access to images are critical for not only managing patient care but also ICU costs and associated length of stay.”

Pacenta added, “Effective immediately, the national distribution agreement presents SourceOne with an outstanding opportunity to broaden our equipment portfolio to our 20,000-plus customers nationwide,” said Pacenta. “The Mobile Star II’s distinguishing product features will be appealing to our customers. End users will be particularly impressed by the excellent maneuverability of the Mobile Star II. The system is affordable, offers flexible operation, and has the ability for expandability. All of these attributes offer customers a unique solution that will be highly-attractive to a range of customers, including specialty care clinics, and small to medium-size hospitals.”
