Stage Door Theatrical Co. is holding open auditions for it's 7th annual Shakespeare at Sunset production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream." The auditions will be on Sunday, April 17 and Monday, April 18 in Norman.

Stage Door Theatrical Company is pleased to announce open auditions for its Shakespeare at Sunset production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by William Shakespeare. The auditions will take place in Norman on April 17 and 18.

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is Shakespeare at his most magical. Moonbeams, dreams, enchanted forests and magic potions mix in this midsummer romp, which is set in Athens and a nearby wood. Lovesick mortals swoon, bumbling rustics rehearse a comic tragedy, and gossamer sprites lead all on a merry chase. The battle of the sexes wages anew in the Bard’s lyrical romance where joy and laughter abound.

At least 15 actors of all ages are needed for this production. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. No previous acting experience is required, so first-time actors are encouraged to attend. Anyone interested in volunteering for this production can sign up at the auditions. The organization will need help backstage, with costumes, publicity, props and more.

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” auditions will be on Sunday, April 17 at 2:00PM and Monday, April 18 at 6:00PM. The open auditions will take place at the Holiday Inn at 1000 North Interstate Drive (I-35 and Robinson Street) in Norman. Rehearsals will generally be held each weeknight until the show opens.

The 7th annual Shakespeare at Sunset production will run June 3 - 18 at Brandt Park (OU Duck Pond) in Norman. Performances are held in a beautiful "family-friendly" setting, with picnic baskets and blankets and youngsters scampering on the lawn, while actors in costumes make the versified language of Shakespeare come alive. This relaxed, informal setting is perfect for audiences to have a cultural experience without being cooped up indoors, away from central Oklahoma’s magical summer days and nights.

The main focus of this event is to bring the timeless works of William Shakespeare to people who might not have been exposed to these paragons of English literature. For those who already have an appreciation of Shakespeare, this production provides a casual and enjoyable atmosphere in which to view this classic play. This outdoor event has been growing more popular every year! Admission is free (with donations being taken after each show to help fund the production) and this classical romantic comedy is suitable for the entire family.
