Hyattsville, MD (PRWEB) April 20, 2005
Named 2004 High School Coach of the Year by the NFL, Coach Bill McGregor of DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, MD has compiled a record of 215-31-3 in his 23 years of coaching. While he credits his dedicated coaching staff and earnest, hard-working players with the success of his program, he also recognizes the use of the Landro® play analyzer in his game strategy. The video-free system allows Coach McGregor to catalogue and record his team's plays for simple and quick strategizing.
"Coaches are creatures of habit," Coach McGregor explained. "Landro gives you a good feel for what the players will do in a given situation, myself included. I use Landro to try to spot where I'm becoming predictable myself; I'd never try that using videotape.Â
Coach McGregor was nominated by Philadelphia Eagles running back and former DeMatha player Brian Westbrook, who claimed, "Bill was and continues to be an inspiration and source of support to me." The honor included a field ceremony at the Super Bowl, $5,000 for McGregor, and a $10,000 grant for his football program.
The Landro is not a video editor; itÂs a play analyzer - a digital "play analysis" tool used to study game videos. Designed especially for head football coaches, it allows viewers to instantly jump to game plays without using video tape. This revolutionary device allows football coaches to analyze their plays, study player technique and expose opponentÂs tendencies 100 times faster and without the inconvenience associated with video tape. The Landro® system is easy to use and is quickly becoming a fundamental tool in football gaming strategy across America and at all levels from Pop Warner to the NFL.
One of the biggest hurdles coaches face is the preparation time traditionally associated with video tape and video editing systems. While coaches are very interested in the outcome, they rarely have the up-front time needed to catalog plays. The Landro system quickly and easily catalogues specific plays for preview and strategizing, making each theme quickly and easily searchable when needed.
In addition, the system has added an entirely new dimension to the whole program by opening up opportunities for the non-athlete. Coach McGregor sought out volunteers in the Computer Science department to catalogue each game; these students have become valuable to Division 1 colleges who are looking for help breaking down games, and several have been awarded scholarships for their proficiency in video analysis.
"This is a great way to get other students involved in our program," Coach McGregor explained. "They do all the cataloging so we coaches can fly through, and each one is awarded a letter, just like any other team member."
Coach McGregor has also found that the Landro system enables him to help his players receive scholarships as well. In the past, because of the time involved in creating a recruitment tape, Coach McGregor could only select a few athletes to showcase. The Landro was designed to create a high-quality highlight tape for recruitment or keepsake in only a few clicks. As a result, this past season, sixteen DeMatha players signed letters of intent to play football at the college level, the most ever for DeMatha, and coach McGregor believes it may not stop there.
"I believe that number could grow to twenty by June," McGregor boasted. "Much of the credit goes to the ease with which we can get the video out using Landro. When I've got a recruiter in my office who is excited about a kid, I can produce a tape on the spot with a couple of clicks. These guys are amazed this technology is available at the high school level."
Whatever his secrets are, Bill McGregor's tools are working. Eight of his teams have been ranked nationally by USA Today and 275 of his players have attended college on full football scholarships. Records like these are partially what led to his NFL honor; respect from his peers makes up the rest. Coach Joe Gibbs with the Washington Redskins stated before the event, "Bill McGregor and his assistant coaches are the best high school coaching staff in the country. Not only are they great coaches but more so, they are great teachers. No doubt they would do a great job at any level."
