Riverside, CA (PRWEB) April 23, 2005 -- University of California, Riverside Department of theatre presents Califest '05 Hip-Hop Theatre a celebration of hip-hop culture through theatre, dance, music, poetry, spoken word and art. April 26, Tuesday, 8:00 pm: Foreshadow
Four one-act plays by local artists explore aspects of hip-hop culture including: selling out, the law, missed opportunities and the global struggle of oppressed peoples with works: Mark Gonzales, Gabriella, Bess Kepp, Janae Heard, Leon Clayborne and Rickerby Hinds.

April 27, Wednesday, 8:00 pm: Native Voices
Explores hip-hop as a tool of resistance, rebellion and enlightenment by indigenous people around the world featuring emceein', deejayin', spoken word, singing, beatboxin'and breakdancin'. Theatre Lab, Humanities 411 Admission: $5 General     Parking: $5 in Lot 6

Word.Art Part I. The demonstration:
Several Graffiti artists demonstrate and break down their techniques while creating a piece.

Rickerby Hinds

Biograph
University of California, Los Angeles, MFA, University of California, Riverside, BA Rickery Hinds, Assistant Professor, was Playwright-in-Residence for both the Bay Area Playwrights Festival and the Shakespeare Festival LA. He has taught playwrighting at the University of Cincinnati, California State University, Los Angeles, and at the University of California, Riverside. He has won numerous awards for his original plays including Birthmark, winner of the Audrey Skirball-Kennis UCLA Playwrighting Award, 1996; Film Noir, commissioned by Cornerstone Theatre Company, 1997; and Blackballin', winner ASK/Royal Court Theatre Exchange, 1996. His Keep Da Headz Ringin' A Hip Hop Tetralogy which was commissioned by ASK was performed at California State University, San Bernadino, and recently in a fully-realized production in New York.
