Chicago U Prof to Lead Volunteers in Search of Genghis Khan Tomb

Prof. John E. Woods of the University of Chicago has agreed to lead a tour of Mongolia this summer that revolves around the search for the tomb of Genghis Khan.

(PRWEB) April 24, 2005 -- L. Orgil, President of Skybrite International announced today that Prof. John E. Woods of the University of Chicago has agreed to be the lecturer for a tour of Mongolia this summer that revolves around the search for the tomb of Genghis Khan. The Frederick, Maryland firm recently secured the rights to bring volunteers to an archaeological dig site in northeast Mongolia where a joint US-Mongolian team has been excavating for the past four summers in hopes of unearthing historys largest intentionally buried treasure trove," according to Maury Kravitz, leader of the Chicago-based Genghis Khan Geo-Historical Expedition. (www.khanexpedition.com) Kravitz, 71, a well-known commodities trader and attorney is an internationally recognized expert on the death and secret interment of Genghis Khan almost 800 years ago. His efforts in Mongolia were documented on the History Channels, The Secrets of Genghis Khan in November 2004.

We are extremely fortunate that Dr. Woods has agreed to be the leader of this tour," said Orgil, 41, a former Mongolian official and the Expeditions Liaison to the Mongolian Government. He pointed out Prof. Woods long-standing role as the Academic Director for the Expedition and one of only a handful of Americans on the scene when the potential burial site was first identified in 2000. Woods, a Central Asia History expert, has been teaching at the University since 1970, and was a featured commentator in the History Channel documentary.

The tour, set to begin on August 15 and run through August 28, is being booked exclusively through iExplore, (www.iExplore.com) the leading online seller of adventure and experiential travel. iExplore CEO, George Deeb said this tour, the first of its kind to Mongolia, is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take part in what could be historys greatest archaeological find to date."

I am looking forward to introducing these fortunate travelers to as much of Mongolias scenic, paleontological and cultural wonders as our schedule allows," said Woods. In addition to the time that volunteers will spend assisting at the exavation site, they will also explore Mongolias world famous paleontological sites and visit the ruins of the capital of the Mongol Empire, once acknowledged as the center of the medieval universe," he added. Prof. Woods suggestions for the cultural component of this unique itinerary have been adapted virtually without change," according to Orgil.

One of Asias largest countries and its least populated, Mongolia has become a haven in recent years for tourists looking to experience a cultural enigma set within a pristine environment. Although Woods has visited Mongolia many times, the opportunity to teach while traveling in this remote land led to his decision to take on the assignment. This will be an exciting and fun experience," Woods concluded.
