(PRWEB) April 24, 2005 -- One cannot help, but be drawn in by the figure in the right of frame, solo and faceless in a shy and submissive position. The woman is looking upwards as if searching above for someone or something to guide her.
Sonya often paints portraits of solo women, often with their backs to us and usually faceless and hairless. With little written to help us understand the paintings all we can do is dream of these women and who they are and what causes them to exist so silently.
Her brush strokes are often brisk and thick on the canvas, but intentional in every aspect. Many of the paintings are as large as 5 feet high. The depth in her paintings lures us in a leads us slowly around the canvas.
Sonya received her BFA as a graduate of Mississippi State University, which she earned after an Associates degree in fashion design from the Fashion Institute of Design and Visual Arts. Sonya has taken different aspects of her education to transform herself into the artist she has become today.
