The MMOB Launches "Moms to Maria" Action at CDP Convention - Grassroots Campaign to Maria Shriver Works to Stop Schwarzenegger's Special Election

Grassroots moms join protest against governor's $70 million extra election. Polite mom to mom letter writing campaign to Maria Shriver hopes she will advise her husband to stop bullying nurses and teachers and wait his turn to get his pet initiatives on the ballot in 2006.

(PRWEB) April 24, 2005 -- This past weekend, at the CDP Convention in LA, Mainstreet Moms (The MMOB) announced their first state-specific Bite Size Action. "Moms to Maria" helps California parents protest the extra election being proposed by Gov. Schwarzenegger. The cost of a special statewide election in 2005 is projected at $70 million.

Megan Matson, Director of The MMOB, says, "Since counties are required by law to come up with their own funds to hold an election, this money comes right out of local services. California counties simply can't afford this!" Schwarzenegger, who is raising millions for ballot measure committees he controls, has come under fire from public school parents for taking $2 billion out of the education fund last year, and breaking his promise by not putting it back in the education fund this year.

Ms. Shriver, a savvy media professional and royal blue Democrat, is a famous member of a family justly celebrated for their public service and charity work. She self-identifies as a mom first, and a First Lady second. The MMOB believes she will advise her husband to stop bullying nurses and teachers and wait his turn to get his pet initiatives on the ballot in 2006.

Mainstreet Moms volunteers staffing The MMOB table at the California Democratic Party Convention were part of a new wave of grassroots activists attending their first convention. They join many other groups coming together to protest the governor's political shenanigans.

About The MMOB:
Mainstreet Moms (The MMOB) is a grassroots organization dedicated to increased political participation by women, especially as they identify and self-organize as mothers. Through "Adopt-a-Swing-State" letter writing parties during election 2004, members sent personal encouragement and voter registration forms to over half a million single moms that did not vote in the 2000 election.
