Hurley Write, Inc., adds online courses in technical and scientific writing.

Hurley Write, Inc., a company that specializes in developing and teaching customized onsite writing courses, is now offering a six-week online course in scientific writing and a four-week course in technical writing.

Both classes feature a voiced lecture, downloadable supplement that further explains the concepts discussed in the lectures, and three weekly writing options.

According to Pam Hurley, PhD, the company's founder, "These classes are perfect for organizations that have staff who travel or who are out of the office a lot, or firms that have difficulty getting their employees together at one time for training. And the writing option in the online classes ask participants to apply the concepts they've learned in the class, submit their writing to us, and get professional feedback on their writing. This allows writers to get a better understanding how they can improve. People really seem to like that option, and feel that that's part of what separates us from our competition."

The six-week course in scientific writing covers such topics as analyzing audience, purpose, and message content; building the argument (using induction and deduction); understanding and using the writing process; understanding how readers read; the components of the scientific paper; and editing and proofreading strategies.

The four-week basics of technical writing course focuses on audience and purpose analysis, effective language use, the writing process, and editing and proofreading.

Hurley Write's onsite classes cover such specialized topics as writing reports, emails, standard operating procedures, instructions, assessments, and user manuals. The firm also offers "cornerstone" classes that focus on organizational strategies for documents, writing fundamentals, the writing process, and editing and proofreading strategies.,

Hurley Write, Inc., also develops training materials and offers writing and editing services.
