New Web Community will Connect Grad School Hopefuls

Candidates applying to graduate schools will now have a powerful new research tool at their disposal. Launching in May, is a Web community where aspiring graduate students can log on to discuss specific programs, get advice from one another, blog, and share information.

“The site began as the result of a conversation between me and fellow graduate students at the University of Texas,” said Clifton Kornegay, founder. “Applying to grad school can be an extremely stressful and sometimes painful process. We felt like there needed to be a place where applicants could compare notes, share strategies, and get some much-needed support and information. is that place.”

The backbone of the site is its unique message board system that allows users to discuss the application process at nearly every post-graduate program in the U.S. Another site feature allows applicants to weigh their application against those of other users. The Application Charts section allows users to easily bring up the statistics for all users that were admitted, rejected, or deferred to any school. The site is free, although users must register to access its features.

“Information is power,” said Carl Redman, co-founder of “The advantage of going to graduate school in the age of the Internet is that the technology can empower your search and truly inform your choices. Gone are the days when you had to rely solely upon the grad school to get your information. Now, with, you can really do some independent research and understand whether a program is right for you, and whether you’re right for the program.”

More than two million grad students are enrolled in the U.S. today, with countless more who aspire to be. The community has room for them all. Its infrastructure allows for 2 million users. “There is really no limit as to how large the community can grow,” Kornegay adds. “In fact, the larger it grows, the more valuable it becomes.” is the first venture of the Aspire Group, an idea incubation firm headquartered in Washington, DC.
