Ogden Point Software announces File4ward their patent pending remote access technology. File4ward allows secure web access to a users PC (home or office) and the files on the various drives. Unlike other software that gives users operating system command and application access (terrifying to most systems administrators), File4ward only permits access to files.
This new advance in P2P allows users to access their own files or, if a group installs the software, files of each other under one user account. . ÂWe had numerous requests from companies wanting a secure means for employees to access work files from home without compromising the network said Rob Gagnon, CEO of Ogden Point software.. This allows companies and work groups access to each otherÂs files in a safe and entirely private network (unlike traditional P2P networks like Kazaa or E-Mule). ÂThis solution was designed for media intensive industries like advertising or recording where files may be needed by others but the PCÂs used are scattered between home and the office says Gagnon. Users select files they wish to obtain and they email the files to themselves or anyone else.
Ultra large files are detected and specially routed to protected servers where they can be picked up from an email link. ÂMost ISPs have a barrier or limit of 2MB for email size. This means most people canÂt actually send massive files like pictures, movies or audio says Gagnon. ÂTraditional file sharing applications (made infamous by illegal methods) can move large files but arenÂt suited for people needing access to their OWN filesÂ.
Each PC installs and sets up a copy of the client software using the registration information generated. The software installs in minutes and is accessible from any browser anywhere on the Internet. Users can even use a cell phone, PDA or Pocket PC to access files.
File4Word is one of the most popular applications developed using Ogden PointÂs proprietary remote access software platform called Penokio®. The Penokio technology was originally launched in September 2000 and its applications have over 3000 registered users.
