Fund is Designed to Encourage Educational Advancement and Provide Opportunities for Success to High-Quality Healthcare Workers

SourceOne Healthcare Technologies and Lakeland Community College, today jointly announced six recipients of the 2005 Radiography Scholarship Award.

Headquartered in Mentor, SourceOne is one of the nation's leading distributors of medical-imaging systems, equipment, radiographic consumable supplies, and services to healthcare facilities.

As part of the company’s commitment to improving healthcare, and to create educational opportunities for local area students, the company joined forces with Lakeland Community College to establish the SourceOne Radiography Scholarship Fund in June 2004. The Fund is designed to encourage educational advancement and provide opportunities for success to high-quality healthcare workers.

Lakeland Community College has been serving the Cleveland-area community for more than 30 years. Lakeland's two-year Radiologic Technology Program was established 15 years ago. The first class graduated two years later in the Summer of 1990.

Since that time, 211 students have graduated from the program with an Associate of Applied Science degree. The extensive curriculum offers classes in all aspects of radiography, medical ethics, law and the fundamentals of radiation physics.

Many of the students in the Associates Degree Program later go on to earn credentials to pursue careers in advanced diagnostics, IT and radiography management and related specialties. The annual SourceOne Radiography Scholarship Fund is based upon academic performance and financial need.

The Radiologic Technology Program received numerous applications. After a difficult selection process, a total of six very worthy students were carefully selected to receive a SourceOne Scholarship. SourceOne congratulates the Cleveland area recipients of the 2005 SourceOne Radiography Scholarship: Gladys Goody, Nachazonde Phiri, Melissa Meckley, Christina Pizzi, Dena McGee, and Kristen Daley.

All of the applicants demonstrated financial needs; some addressed their commitment to helping the community; and all of the letters conveyed a heart-warming impression of the student’s dedication, honor and faith.

For example, Christina Pizzi admirably served her country in IRAQ from January 2003 through May 2004. Upon returning, Christina chose to resume her educational aspirations at Lakeland. Christina’s career goal is to seek a radiography position at a Veteran’s Health Care Center and plans to graduate in the Spring of 2006.

Gladys Goody graduated from Lakeland Community College in the Spring of 1991 with an Associate Degree in Business Management. After a few years in the business world, Gladys decided that she needed a change. She chose to pursue a career in Radiography and knew precisely where to attend. Gladys is the primary income source for she and her family. She works a third shift job so that she may attend school and clinicals. Through all this, Gladys has maintained a high G.P.A. and has a driving attitude toward obtaining her degree in Radiography.

“Like those that received the scholarships, SourceOne is dedicated to the community and to healthcare as a whole. We are honored to be able to offer this annual scholarship to the Radiography Program at Lakeland Community College,” said Jerry C. Cirino, president and CEO. “The medical imaging field is dynamic and ever changing. We are very pleased to be able to serve as a catalyst to help students who want to pursue a rewarding career in this high-demand area of medicine.”
