PeopleSoft Founder Dave Duffield Announces New Venture: Accepts Chairman’s Award at IHRIM 25th Anniversary Conference

While attending IHRIMÂ?s 25th Anniversary Conference to receive the 2005 ChairmanÂ?s Award, Dave Duffield, founder and driving force behind the successful PeopleSoft Corporation, announced that he is starting a new business venture.

Dave Duffield, founder of PeopleSoft, Integral Systems and Information Associates was presented the IHRIM 2005 Chairman’s Award on Monday, May 2nd at IHRIM’s 25th Annual Conference in Reno, Nevada. The Chairman’s Award is presented to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the general field of human resource information management. While attending the conference, Mr. Duffield talked with David Salyers, magazine committee chair, and co-chair Karen Ericson about his plans for a new business venture.

“We don’t have a name yet, but we do have a time horizon: a hypothetical date,” said Mr. Duffield. “Today feels very much like the early days of PeopleSoft and we feel the world is ready for something new. It’s time to deliver on promises that weren’t fulfilled in previous systems. As it relates to our vision, what we are sharing right now is intentionally minimalistic, but we have a Web site,, and are looking forward to sharing more details when the time is right. It’s a very bold approach — it may not work, but it is exciting to try.”

Mr. Duffield founded PeopleSoft, Inc. in 1987 and went on to serve as the company’s CEO and board chairman where he offered significant technical and functional contributions to the development of business software. He was the driving force behind the company’s vision, product, market direction, and commitment to customer service. In addition, he inspired the company’s unique culture by promoting core values that focused on people, innovation, integrity and fun. PeopleSoft grew to be the second-largest application software company in the world before being acquired by Oracle early this year.
