(PRWEB) May 8, 2005 -- May 19-22 is the ninth annual Detroit Lakes Festival of the Birds and Five Lakes Resort is open for bird watchers and other vacationers. For those of you who are looking for an excuse to get away for a spring weekend break -- this is it. The festival takes place all over Detroit Lakes and includes walking field trips, workshops, exhibitors, socializing, presentations, banquet and keynote speaker Bill Thompson III, editor of Birdwatcher's Digest. (Some of the events require registration fees.) Five Lakes Resort features 11 private cabins on a private lake just 15 minutes from the festivities.

Because Detroit Lakes is located in the transition zone of tall prairie grasses, northern hardwoods and conifer ecosystems many varieties of birds can be found here -- some are found only in the spring as they migrate from winter locations to their summer homes. At the 2004 festival, bird watchers reported seeing 160 species including Prairie Chickens, Grassland Sparrows, 25 species of Woodland Warblers and the Scarlet Tananger.

Beth Schupp of Five Lakes reports, Visitors to Northern Minnesota can look forward to Spring in full bloom. The snow has melted, the trees are starting to bud, the sun is warm, and the nearby award-winning Wildflower Golf Course is open."

Five Lakes Resort (http://www.fivelakesresort.com) is the tranquil cousin of Fair Hills Resort (http://www.fairhillsresort.com). Five Lakes Resort offers bird watchers an exclusive vacation in a wooded setting on a private lake. No gasoline motors are allowed on Lake Five, making for a peaceful and relaxing getaway. It's an unspoiled environment where you can get back to nature and enjoy the simple things in life such as bird watching, hiking, fishing and more.
