The Duke of Decor Creates A Great Escape at 41st Annual Pasadena Showcase House of Design
First Significant African-American Interior Designer to Participate in the Largest and Oldest House and Garden Tours in the U.S.
Pasadena, CA (PRWEB) May 8, 2005 -- DeWayne Porter, professionally know as The Duke of Décor," is the first male African-American Primary Interior Designer to participate in the largest and oldest House and Garden tour in the United States, the 41st annual Pasadena Showcase House of Design. The Showcase House of design opened April 17, 2005 through May 15, 2005. Porters participation in this event will be marked as historical and a high achievement for this accomplished interior designer.
The Duke of Decor will present The Escape on the second floor, which features a 25-foot back passage hallway and rear staircase. It will astound visitors with the splendid materials, silk fabrics, extraordinary furniture, intuitive artwork and the unique use of building materials beyond the expected or intended use. Defining every detail imaginable, this small space will highlight complex, sophisticated elements with an energy rarely seen. The tranquility of this space is what truly offers the escape from the average and mundane in interior design. While The Duke of Décor has received praise for his exquisite work and attention to detail, this opportunity has not come easy for this adept designer. Prior to this years showcase, Porter had been rejected five consecutive years, but his passion for design kept him coming back making this his freshman appearance at the 41st annual showcase. Prior to this event, Porters designs have been exhibited in several other high profiled showcases including the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Showhouse and Divine Design 98. Porter has created interiors for a host of celebrity clientele such as Aretha Franklin, Nancy Wilson, Malcolm Jamal Warner, and The Mayors Office for the City of Detroit. He also received an NAACP Theater Award for Best Set Design in 2003 for the David E. Talbert and Kenny Babyface" Edmunds production Love Makes Things Happen. Most recently, Porter won an episode of the HGTV popular show Designer Challenge.
