The Choirs performance of Leonard Bernsteins Chichester Psalms will be the highlight of the evening, along with selections from Bernsteins popular West Side Story, Candide and Wonderful Town. Complementing this tribute are A Tribute to Cole Porter, Agnus Dei by Samuel Barber, music by George Gershwin and spirituals arranged by the incomparable Moses Hogan. This fantastic program is sure to attract and delight hundreds of music enthusiasts from throughout the Greater Philadelphia region, as well as long-time Choir families and friends. This concert marks the springtime debut of the Choir under the baton of our new Artistic Director Jeffrey R. Smith, assisted by Associate Director John B. Stroud, Jr. Director Emeritus Dr. Robert G. Hamilton makes a special appearance as guest conductor.
Founded in 1968, the Philadelphia Boys Choir & Chorale provides the finest musical training to talented boys and men from the greater Philadelphia area, regardless of their ethnic, religious or economic backgrounds. The Choir performs a diverse repertoire emphasizing the preservation and promotion of American music. Our goal is for each boy to achieve artistic excellence, strength of character, self-discipline and focus through the rehearsal and performance of music. Boys learn the importance of hard work, decorum, diversity and the appreciation of international and cultural traditions. The Choir represents the United States and Philadelphia throughout the world as Americas Ambassadors of Song."
