Mike Ellis is excited about Father’s Day this year. But not because he’s getting a new tie or a bottle of cologne – he’s excited about a book. For the 2nd year in a row, Covenant United Methodist Church in Port Orange, FL, where Ellis is a Men’s Leader, is handing out free books to men in the church as part of the Project Father’s Day campaign from Orlando-based Man in the Mirror.

A major success in recent years, Project Father’s Day was started to help men find the meaning and purpose in their lives by giving them a free book, and now churches throughout the country are set to distribute over half a million books on Father’s Day as part of the 2005 Project Father’s Day effort.

Patrick Morley, founder of Man in the Mirror and author of more than 11 books for men, including the new title Dad in the Mirror, is amazed at the changes he’s seen since the first Project Father’s Day. “When we began the campaign, we had no idea how many men would be reached,” he says. “The stories we hear about changed lives are overwhelming”.

Ellis agrees, attributing recent growth in attendance at his church’s men’s meetings to the program. “[The book] The Man in the Mirror has had a significant impact on men and caused them to stop and consider their faith and their priorities,” he says, noting that they now have men meeting weekly as a result of handing out the book The Man in the Mirror.

David Delk, president of Man in the Mirror and co-author of Dad in the Mirror, says Father’s Day is the perfect time to ask men to stop and think about their roles as fathers. “We help men see that getting their kids to perform or straighten-up is only a temporary fix, we need them to see that it’s their children’s hearts that matter.” “That’s why we’re excited for churches to have the opportunity to give away a book like Dad in the Mirror this year.”

Other titles offered for Project Father’s Day: Morley-authored The Man in the Mirror, Dad in the Mirror and Devotions For the Man in the Mirror, Ordering Your Private World by Gordon MacDonald, along with Chuck Colson’s Loving God, Bob Buford’s Halftime, and finally Beneath The Surface by Bob Reccord.

For 15 years, Man in the Mirror has focused on reaching men with practical messages of faith, priorities, and values. In the last 5 years, over 5 Million men and women have received a book at church, or from a friend through programs like Project Father’s Day and Mission: Mother’s Day.
