Used Cell Phone Drives Help Stop Pollution and Raise Funds for a Great Cause

Organizations All Over the US are Raising Funds for Worthy Causes and Helping the Environment Through Used Cellular Phone Drives

Warren, MI (PRWEB) May 12, 2005 -- Hospitals, churches and school organizations all over the country have teamed up with American Cellular Donation Organization (ACDO) to participate in a used cellular phone drive and are seeing the benefits it can produce.

Cell phones contain many chemicals that, if not disposed of properly, can leak into drinking water and harm the environment. ACDO helps stop this from happening by converting the used cell phones that groups collect into charitable cash by refurbishing and reselling them to third world countries and small US retailers. Non-working cell phones are recycled in accordance with EPA guidelines.

The number of used, idle cell phones in the United States increases by about 80 million each year," said Vincent Serio, ACDO Founder and CEO. This is because cell phone users are striving to keep up with the latest technology. If this rate continues, there will be about one billion such units in the U.S. alone by year 2010."

We know that there are millions of used, idle cell phones in the United States -- it is just a matter of mobilizing potential donors to help recycle them," Serio added.

Groups interested in launching used cell phone collection campaigns to raise funds for charity and protect the environment may visit www.cellulardonation.org or call (888) 863-2355.
