Ceremony to Honor Jewish Revolutionary War Heroes

During the 350th anniversary year of Jews in America, a memorial ceremony, sponsored by the 1654 Society, will be held on Sunday May 22nd at 10:00 at the historic Chatham Square Cemetery of Congregation Shearith Israel in New York.

(PRWEB) May 14, 2005 -- Chatham Square Cemetery -- a Colonial era burial ground in lower Manhattan -- is America's oldest Jewish cemetery, dating to the 1683, and is the resting place of many of the pioneers of American Jewish life, including 22 patriots who fought in the Revolutionary War, defending New York against the British. As part of the ceremony, there will be a full Color Guard. American flags will be placed at the graves of the Revolutionary War veterans. The public is invited to attend this moving and historic ceremony, located in lower Manhattan at Chatham Square and St. James Place.

The 1654 Society is dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of America's first and oldest Jewish community.
