Three years ago, consumer advocate Ralph Nader filed a formal complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, charging that search engines were misleading consumers by mixing advertising text links and "editorial" search results. The search engines began labeling more clearly, but many people believe the core issue still persists. Picking up the consumer protection torch, Consumer Reports WebWatch debates the topic with a panel of world-class experts.
The conference will feature discussions on how to improve the way search results, including health information, are displayed -- so that anyone can tell advertising from the real thing.
