Capitol Collectibles is pleased to announce the next Washington DC Comic-Con will be held from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, May 29th, at the Marriott at Metro Center in the heart of downtown Washington.
There will be platinum, gold, silver, bronze and modern age comic books, toys, t-shirts, non-sports cards, DVD's, original art, and much more. Our guest list of national and local comic book artists and writers, movie stars, and other celebrities includes Rich Buckler Sr., John Snyder III, Conrad Brooks, Matt Cail, Bruce Lindsay, JM Guinn, and Madison Underground Press. Special guests will be available to draw sketches, sign autographs, accept commissions, and chat with fans. All of this is easily accessible via Metro and there will be plenty of free street parking. Admission is only $5 (with flyer) and children under 12 are free.
Rich Buckler began his career as a comic book artist in the early Â70s. During his expansive career he has drawn nearly every major character in the Marvel and DC universes. He created Deathlok, the first cyborg in comics. Buckler is also the author of several books including, How to Become a Comic Book Artist, How to Draw Superheroes, and How to Draw Monsters. His latest book, How To Be A Dynamic Comic Book Artist, hits store shelves later this Spring, just in time for the Washington DC Comic-Con.
Celebrated comic artist-writer John K. Snyder III is well recognized for his impressive string of modern recreations of classic Silver Age Marvel covers for the Overstreet comic Book Price Guide. He has been a force in creator-owned comics since the 1980s and has worked with Matt Wagner on Grendel and Doctor Mid-Nite. Currently, Snyder is finishing a three-part Batman story for DC.
Conrad Brooks, a Baltimore native, has appeared in over 200 movies and has been called Âthe King of B moviesÂ. He started his career appearing in many Ed Wood movies including Plan 9 from Outer Space and Glen or Glenda. Brooks has also written and directed numerous movies including the Jan-Gel series. His latest movie, It Came from Trafalgar was released in March.
Horror artist Matt Cail (http://www.horrorart.biz) began sketching monsters as a child growing up in the Pacific Northwest. Cail is a popular horror artist in the Washington, DC metro area having multiple gallery shows and the originator of a fantastic online horror comic at http://www.horrorcomicstrip.com.
Bruce ÂPorkchopÂ Lindsay is a member of the Hogettes (http://www.hogettes.org), an irreverent group of die-hard Washington Redskins fans. A Civil War Re-enactor for 30 years, Lindsay has been in many Civil War movies and in many T.V. shows taped in the D.C. area. Most recently, Lindsay appeared in the Conrad BrooksÂ movie Jan-Gel 3: Hillbilly Monster.
JM Guinn is an independent comic book writer and artist from Washington, DC. He has been publishing his own comics since 2001. Guinn combines a refreshing anime-esque art style with innovative plotlines in his own creations. His most recent work is a four-issue series Girlstripsfinest featuring the Fin and Shannon Shamrock.
Newark, Delaware based Madison Underground Press publishes comics from young independent artists and writers focusing on life in suburbia. The comics include biting satire on modern life in the suburbs with undertones of timely social and political issues. Madison Underground Press will have several of their artists and writers at the Washington DC Comic-Con.
