Boston, MA (PRWEB) May 20, 2005
Garelick Farms announced today its support of Camp to Belong, a summer camp where siblings whoÂve been separated while placed in the foster care system get to spend a dream week together. The Massachusetts affiliate of Camp To Belong opens this summer at Camp Wingate-Kirkland on Cape Cod and will host siblings from across the Commonwealth.
To support this initiative, Garelick Farms will present a $10,000 Over the Moon Dare to Dream Big Award to Lynn Price, Founder of Camp To Belong, at the official Boston launch event hosted by local philanthropists Bianca and Edward Latessa on Monday, May 23 at Saint, 90 Exeter Street, from 6:00 Â 8:00 p.m.
ÂFor the past four years, Garelick Farms has partnered with the Massachusetts Department of Social Services to help recruit foster families. Many children are separated from their siblings simply because there are not enough foster families to place them in homes together. This year weÂre not only helping to recruit foster families, but to also reunite siblings who are living separately. We want to help them make this small but critical dream come true, stated Matt Samson, Garelick Farms Marketing Director.
Lynn Price, founder of Camp to Belong, reminds us that siblings are the longest relationships we have in life, most often surpassing the parent-child relationship. ÂCamp To Belong provides the opportunity to forge that sibling bond and create childhood memories together. With Garelick Farms support, we can not only provide scholarships for sibling groups to attend Camp to Belong but also create greater awareness in New England regarding the significance of sibling connections placed separately while in care and the need for more foster families, she adds.
May is National Foster Family Month, and Camp To Belong is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Currently in the U.S., 75% of the 600,000 siblings living in foster care separated from their brothers and sisters. Price, a former youth-in-care separated from her own sister for most of their childhoods, has reunited over 1000 siblings at Camp to Belong sites across the countryÂand now in Massachusetts.
Lynn Price has received numerous accolades including the Points of Light President's Service Award, CBS Morning Show American Hero, L'eggs Hosiery Women Who Shape Our World honor, Oprah Winfrey's Angel Network Use Your Life Award, Redbook MagazineÂs Mother and Shaker of the Year honor. She is author of Real Belonging: Give Siblings Their Right To ReuniteÂ.
