Houston, TX (PRWEB) May 22, 2005 -- Former Local TV Personality Lloyd Gite Brings Treasures of Africa to Houston. Gite Fulfills Life Passion with The Gite Gallery

Former Fox 26 News personality, Lloyd Gite has realized his lifes passion with the opening of The Gite Gallery, his eclectic and intriguing Contemporary African Art facility.

Conveniently located in Midtown at 2024 Alabama, The Gite Gallery is filled with unclaimed treasures of the Continent that Gite has held a passion for his entire life.

Ive loved everything African since I was a child," Gite said. My first trip was in 1976 and Ive returned over twenty times visiting all parts of the continent. My first stop was the West Coast of Africa, where I visited Ghana, Togo and Nigeria," he added. Now my home is brimming with African art; for years my friends have called it Gite Gallery."

In fact, Gites home was the inspiration for the design of the Gallery. I wanted people to see how they could live with African art, so I opened the Gallery in a house and designed it as such," Gite added.

The 1940s home that is now The Gite Gallery houses contemporary African paintings, sculpture and unique one-of-a-kind custom pieces from Kenya, South Africa and Ghana. Gite features renowned African artists Mongezi Gum, Larry Otoo, Kofi Argorsor and Mark Buku among many others.

After 25 years as a television reporter, Gite retired from broadcasting to pursue his art interest. He continues to work as a freelance journalist and has been published in Essence, Gentlemans Quarterly, Glamour, USA Today, Money, and Working Woman magazines.

The Gite Gallery is open Thursday--Saturday 10 a.m.--6 p.m. and by private appointment. For more information on The Gite Gallery call 713-523-3311.
