Dos Claves' Free Latin-Jazz Festival

The Dos Claves Orquesta (a (NFP) VanderCook College of Music Outreach Program ) is hosting its Second Annual Dos Claves Latin-Jazz Festival on Sunday June 5, 2005 from noon--6 p.m., on Lyndale Street at Western Ave, in Chicago.

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) May 24, 2005 -- The Dos Claves Orquesta is hosting its Second Annual Dos Claves Latin-Jazz Festival on Sunday June 5, 2005 from noon--6 p.m. This festival will be held outside (weather permitting) next to Café Bolero, a Cuban restaurant, 2252 N Western, on the corner of Western and Belden Ave., Chicago, IL. The festival will feature a performance of the Dos Claves Orquesta as well as sets by some of Chicagos most popular Latin-jazz groups. Also, vendors will be showcasing their artwork and other crafts at booths in the parking lot next door. Admission is free.

The Dos Claves Orquesta is a performing ensemble and workshop for Chicago area youth that is dedicated to the Latin-Jazz and Mambo literature made popular by big band leaders such as Mario Bauza, Machito Grillo, Tito Puente, Tito Rodriguez, and Eddie Palmieri. Under the direction of Marc Jacoby and Richard Pillot, instructors Mike McManis, and Joe Rendon; the staff brings their experience to the program both as performers and teachers. The ensemble meets twice a month for rehearsals and classes in improvisation, dance, and Latin music styles.

Only in its second season, the ensemble has performed for enthusiastic audiences at the 2004 Illinois Music Educators Association State Conference, Hot Houses Jazz en Clave Festival, Chicago Historical Society, Harold Washington Cultural Center, Chicago area school jazz festivals, and hosted its own festival featuring local bands.

Students from Chicago and suburban schools are participating in this unique program that strives to foster a comprehensive understanding of the music and greater interaction between students from diverse backgrounds.

Dos Claves is sponsored by the VanderCook College of Music Community Outreach Program, Latin Percussion, Vic Firth, Vandoren Reeds and Café Bolero.
