Another international corporation has weighed in with a large contribution to the Southeast Asia tsunami relief effort. U.S.-based BNI (Business Network IntÂl.) recently released $57,000.00 collected for relief efforts from members and Directors who represent almost a dozen nations.
BNI is an international business referral organization which provides word-of-mouth marketing to its members worldwide. After the tsunami struck the region last December, the BNI-Misner Charitable Foundation made an appeal for donations. ÂWe have been receiving donations from all over the world as our members rally behind this cause, states BNI Founder and CEO, Dr. Ivan Misner.
ÂBNI teaches its business members that givers gain, in life and in business. The response we have received shows us that our members understand what that means, Misner goes on to say.
Of the $57,000.00 collected, $45,000.00 was presented to the Red Cross of Sri Lanka. The funds donated to the Red Cross of Sri Lanka will be used to construct 2 new preschools. Misner and his wife, Elisabeth, who is also the Foundation Administrator, were able to personally present a check to the Red Cross of Sri Lanka representative and BNI Director, Marjan Manzil (photo attached). The donations the BNI-Misner Foundation has collected are being given to the following organizations: $10,000 - Disaster Emergency Commission, $1,820 - Samaritan's Purse, $1,200 - U.S. Commission for UNICEF, $45,000 - Red Cross of Sri Lanka
BNI was started in 1985 by Dr. Misner in California. Allowing one person per profession to join local chapters which meet once a week, the organization has locations in 23 countries. Members of BNI passed over 3.3 million referrals to each other last year.
Misner, who has authored best-selling business books, such as Masters of Networking and Masters of Success, and his wife were recently named Humanitarians of the Year by a Southern California charity. Their organization has places similar value on reaching out to others, as evidenced by their support of the tsunami relief effort.
