Colorado Artist Heather Leavitt Joins GoodHandArts.com
Great Handmade Art from a Great Website
(PRWEB) May 30, 2005 -- Heather Leavitt, joins GoodHandArts.com -- the online art fair website. GoodHandArts.com features fine art and contemporary crafts from artists all over the country. The goal of the website was to offer art collectors and art lovers with access to high-quality contemporary crafts and fine art while also providing an e-commerce outlet for artists, who might otherwise only be seen at a local arts fair," says owner Judy Shaefer. We are very excited to have Heather join Good Hand Arts". Additionally, GoodHandArts.com supports environmentally friendly processes, recycling and programs that provide work and support to groups who need it. GHA contributes 1% of all profits to community art organizations to continue fueling the creative fires.
Heather Leavitt, with a background as a graphic designer, photographer and bead worker, lives in Mancos, Colorado. Her jewelry is a result of an addiction she has to beads and a relationship with a local bead store. Most all of the pieces are made of semi-precious beads and pearls and are finished in sterling silver. She works in a classic, contemporary style with the utmost respect to the attribute of each stone--taking great care and putting intention into her work. The descriptions of the stones are energetic in nature that reflects the inspiration Leavitt experiences while working with beads.
Leavitts cyanotypes are a reflection of her June 2003 Artist-in-Residency at the Aspen Guard Station. Similar images were produced by Anna Atkins in the late 1800s. She was the first woman to publish an illustrated book using photographic images and is the source of inspiration in Leavitts work. She hopes to continue creating cyanotypes of botanical studies during camping trips in the summer. She also offers classes on the technique to students of all ages.
With a BA in Studio Art from Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas and her previous work experience as an art and gallery director, Heather has launched her newest venture as publisher of Arts Perspective Magazine", a free quarterly publication focusing on the fine arts of Southwest Colorado. Artists in all mediums and performance are showcased. The new arts magazine, www.artsperspective.com, recently celebrated its first anniversary and has expanded its circulation to 10,000 copies for the 2005 summer issue.
GoodHandArts.com currently features 85 artists in a wide variety of mediums and price ranges. Heather and all our artists offer handmade contemporary crafts that just arent offered anywhere else", say Judy Shaefer. We feel the value of lovingly created handmade items is incomparable to the mass-produced goods overwhelming us in modern society, and we want to share that joy with as many consumers as we can."
