Women Interested in Consumer Electronics Discover First Magazine Written Especially for Them

CE Lifestyles, a new monthly magazine that shows women how consumer electronics products and services can help enhance their active lifestyles, is reaching a market other publishers have ignored.

We knew that women were already purchasing the majority of CE products on the market

Lincoln, NE (PRWEB) May 27, 2005 -- There must be a lot of "women with connections" reading magazines. CE Lifestyles, the first consumer electronics magazine written especially for women, has announced it is now on track to reach 300,000 in circulation months ahead of original projections. When the magazine launched last December, executives at Sandhills Publishing expected the new monthly publication would find a ready audience of women who were looking for smart, practical information about the latest digital products and technologies. But even they have been pleasantly surprised.

"We knew that women were already purchasing the majority of CE products on the market," says Katie Sommer, the editor for CE Lifestyles. "And we also knew that nobody else was writing material designed for that audience. We decided to go against the wave of magazines targeting 'male geeks' and deliver content to female consumers instead."

Sommer says that readers "are really responding to our content," adding that this new paradigm of women and electronics is catching some manufacturers and retailers off guard. "Forward-thinking companies are embracing the shift in the marketplace and the incredible buying power of women, but some companies are still fighting the mentality that electronic gadgets are just boys' toys."

If those companies read through the latest reports from the Consumer Electronics Association, they may want to adjust their thinking. The CEA says that women not only buy more products than men, they also indirectly influence more purchases. In fact, the CEA says women are either directly or indirectly involved in nearly 90% of CE purchases.

"That's our reader," says Sommer. "As our cover says, we're 'for the woman with connections.'" Sommer points out that women purchased some $55 billion of consumer electronic products last year and are projected to spend even more on digital goods in 2005.

Tapping into that kind of buying power is a connection that any company would love to make.
