Hsin Tien, Taiwan (PRWEB) May 30, 2005
Following the release of MMCmicro prototypes in February of 2005, PDC (Power Digital Card) is now ready to meet market demands for this new form factor and will be launching these cards at Computex Taiwan 2005. MMCmicro is currently in process of standardization in the MultiMediaCard Association and is expected to become the de-facto micro sized memory product for mobile devices that require compact external memory.
Having a form factor of 12mm x 14mm x 1.1mm, MMCmicro is one of the smallest memory cards available in the market today. Unlike other micro-sized form factors which have jagged areas, PDCÂs MMCmicro is well rounded at all edges, giving the card a very smooth feel, protecting end users and devices from being harmed.
Compatible with the Version 3.X MMC and Version 4.0 MMC (4 bit mode) specifications, PDCÂs MMCmicro currently has a performance speed of over 60x. It is expected by the end of 2005, this performance will be upgraded to over 150x. Utilizing 90nm SLC memory and 0.18um controller technology, PDCÂs current MMCmicro performance speed far exceeds other format micro-sized cards by 450%.
Furthermore, PDCÂs MMCmicro operates from 1.8V ~ 3.3V (dual voltage). In the low voltage operation environment, PDCÂs MMCmicro can operate up to 6 times less power consumption than other format micro-sized cards. With the use of an adapter, PDCÂs MMCmicro will be the same size as a MultiMediaCard or MMCplus. PDC will initially offer 32MB and 128MB densities with 64MB and 256MB to come soon. Density size of 512MB and 1GB are expected to be developed before end of 2005.
According to Jium Chen, Director of Sales at PDC, ÂAlthough MMCmicro has the disadvantage of late-to-market compared with other format micro-sized memory cards, the technological advantage of MMCmicro is rapidly changing this fact. We are already seeing five models of Samsung mobile phones either launched already, or ready to launch into the market. In our recent road show to promote MMCmicro, we see top tier mobile phone manufacturers which were designing other types of micro-sized memory cards now switching their designs to MMCmicro. In line with MMCAÂs policy, MMCmicro is royalty free, giving its users an advantage of cost competitiveness. We expect MMCmicro to be the dominant mobile phone memory card in the near future. What other form factor could be better than a high speed, low power consumption, low cost, and user safe MMCmicro ? Last but not least, PDCÂs MMCmicro products also have the uniqueness of 100% waterproof, 100% dustproof, high shockproof, high ESD proof, and environmentally friendliness, in line with other products made from our patented injection technology.
