South Shore Hearing Center Team Participates in National American Academy of Audiology 17th Annual Convention in Washington DC
Weymouth, MA (PRWEB) May 29, 2005 -- David and Louise Citron of Newton, owners of South Shore Hearing Center in Weymouth, recently participated in the 17th Annual Convention of the American Academy of Audiology, held in Washington D.C in April.
The American Academy of Audiology (www.audiology.org) is the worlds largest professional organization of audiologists, with an active membership of more than 9600. The organization promotes quality hearing and balance care by advancing the professional standards of audiology through leadership, advocacy, education, public awareness and support of research.
The conference featured as a guest speaker Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA), who shared the stage with keynoters James Carville and Mary Matalin.
Senator Harkin is a long-time leader in the fight to improve health care. As co-chair of the Senate Rural Health Caucus, he has successfully pushed legislation to bring health professionals to small towns and rural areas. As ranking Democrat on the Senate panel that funds most health programs, he has guided efforts to focus more on prevention and early intervention as a means of reducing costs and improving quality of life. Senator Harkin has joined Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD), Senator Mike DeWine (R-OH) and Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA) as a cosponsor of the Hearing Health Accessibility Act (S 277), the audiology direct access bill recently introduced in the U.S. Senate.
In addition to having a personal and family familiarity with hearing impairment, Senator Harkin authored the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act with former Senator Bob Dole.
At the convention, the staff of South Shore Hearing Center previewed the latest technologies, learned information about groundbreaking discoveries, and were apprised of new, state-of-the-art discoveries and procedures for diagnosing and treating hearing loss and balance disorders.
We felt it was important to participate in this worthwhile event," said David Citron, South Shore Hearing Center director, who added, The American Academy of Audiology is without question the premier organization in our industry, and it is key for us to stay abreast of new developments."
The American Academy of Audiology was founded in January of 1988 when a group of audiology leaders met at the invitation of Dr. James Jerger at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. Included in the founders was Dr. David Citron, head of South Shore Hearing Center.
The purpose of the study group was to establish an independent, freestanding national organization run by and for audiologists. Today, with an active membership of more than 9,600 audiologists, the American Academy of Audiology promotes quality hearing and balance care by advancing the profession of audiology through leadership, advocacy, education, public awareness and support of research.
