Although Many Failed, Goad International Got Tsunami Aid to Rural Areas of Sri Lanka
The outreach ministry of Giving Hope Church, Goad International, provided thousands of pounds of aid  medicine, food, and water purification kits  to tsunami survivors on Sri LankaÂs east coast despite enormous obstacles. (http://www.goadintl.org)
When the agents of Goad International landed in Sri LankaÂs capitol of Colombo with aid for tsunami victims they discovered an unimaginable situation:
- Millions of pound of relief (including theirs) were stuck in customs
- An unsympathetic government ignoring the needs of people in rural areas
- Much needed aid being sent out of the country and sold
- Some aid was being disposed of on the local black market
- Tiger rebels and bandits stealing aid trucked into remote areas.
They Needed a Miracle
With their aid locked up in customs warehouses, the representatives of Goad International flew by helicopter to survey the need in the target area of Batticaloa, located on Sri LankaÂs east coast.
They found people desperate for help who were perishing for lack of food, water, and medicine. During their travels, they Âchanced upon a general of the Sri Lankan Army and formed a relationship that guaranteed the safe delivery of Goad International aid.
The agents for Goad International returned to the capitol city with renewed hope of finding a way to get their aid out of customs. For twelve hours, they had disappointing and frustrating meetings with bureaucrats. Then a Âchance meeting with the Sri LankaÂs Secretary Defense created the opportunity for a unique relationship that guaranteed the Tsunami aid provided by Goad International would sail through customs to its destination.
While thousands of tons of aid have been shipped to Sri Lanka, sadly, much of it will never found its way to those who need it most. Goad International believes that because of GodÂs help, it was able to get the assistance provided by its ministry partners into the hands of truly needy people.
