Internet users can become cheesehead beatniks and win prizes by submitting haiku poems at http://www.DairyLama.com.

Internet users can become cheesehead beatniks and win prizes by submitting haiku poems to new web site at http://www.DairyLama.com.

The site, hosted by an insightful cow called the "Dairy Lama" invites visitors to submit dairy-inspired haiku poems, called mooküs. Mookü poems are submitted and displayed on topics such as art, philosophy, love, science, and adventure.

Japanese haiku poems are valued for lightness, simplicity, openness and depth. Dairyland Mookü poems are valued by the Dairy Lama for their humor and ability to use cheese and other dairy products as a metaphor for life.

Some cheesy examples:

It all starts from milk.

The building block of cheeses.

Dairy DNA.

A truck full of cows

rumbles down a country road:

A cosmic milkshake.

To say I love cheese

probably makes my wife mad...

though I love her more.

Price of milk rises....

Cost of cheddar increases.

Tasty cheese: priceless.

The site was originally named “CheeseHaiku.com”, but quickly evolved into something bigger and more exciting, said Troy Janisch, the site’s creator.

“Dairy farming is a very wholesome, zen-like thing in the Midwest. It’s also got a very quirky, humble and insightful side.” said Janisch, president and founder of the Icon Interactive™. “The Dairy Lama embodies all of it.”

The Dairy Lama Web site is celebrating its first year with more than 1,200 mookus in 18 makeshift categories. What will be new in 2005? Users will be able to call an 800 number and record their mooku's live.
