The Harry Potter Launch Weekend Sweepstakes Contest runs from June 1 to June 16. The Grand Prize is a trip to Edinburgh to meet J.K. Rowling.
Vancouver (PRWEB) June 1, 2005 -- Raincoast Books launches an online contest today, June 1st, in partnership with over 400 independent bookstores, Amazon.ca and other retailers across Canada.

The Harry Potter Launch Weekend Sweepstakes Contest runs from June 1 to June 16. The Grand Prize is a trip to Edinburgh to meet J.K. Rowling.
The Grand Prize winner will be selected on June 17. The winning Canadian Harry Potter fan (age 8-16) , along with a guardian or parent, will travel to Edinburgh. On the stroke of midnight on the eve of publication on Saturday 16th July J.K. Rowling will read from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince the latest installment in the Harry Potter book adventure in the Great Hall at Edinburgh Castle.
Her audience of seventy aspiring cub reporters will attend the Harry Potter Childrens Press Conference Weekend on behalf of newspapers, and other organizations from around the world. The cub reporters will meet J.K. Rowling who will give them each a signed copy of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. There will be a photographer at the midnight event who will take a photograph of each child with J. K. Rowling as she gives them their book. The cub reporters will then have the weekend to read the book in a specially created Reading Room at Edinburgh Castle before attending the Childrens Press Conference on Sunday 17th July to question J. K. Rowling about the new book.
The Grand Prize winner of the Raincoast Harry Potter Launch Weekend Sweepstakes Contest will receive:
- four night, five day trip for two people (one cub reporter age 8-16 and one adult) to Edinburgh, Scotland
- return economy airfare
- four nights accommodation (double occupancy) in a hotel located in Edinburgh
- airport and hotel transfers in Edinburgh
- passes to the Harry Potter Launch Weekend event and the Childrens Press Conference at Edinburgh Castle (July 17).

Although no purchase will be necessary, entrants will need a special Harry Potter password to enter, obtainable on (a) special postcards that are available without charge at participating independent bookstores, Amazon.ca and other retailers, and (b) online at http://www.raincoast.com/harrypotter/index.html . All valid entries submitted between June 1st and June 16th at http://www.raincoast.com/harrypotter/index.html will be entered to win, including residents of Quebec.
