RoHS/WEEE Supply Chain Transition Workshop

Symphony Consulting announced today that it is introducing a new workshop focused on mitigating the supply chain risks associated with the RoHS andWEEE (Restriction of Hazardous Substances/Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) directives in Europe. RoHS and WEEE are the European Unions environmental directives that limit the use of six hazardous chemicals by July 2006 and require companies to collect electronic waste from customers by August 13, 2005.

(PRWEB) June 3, 2005 -- Symphony Consulting, Inc., a supply chain consulting and training company located in Silicon Valley, announced the launch of a new one-day workshop that helps Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) take concrete steps towards mitigating revenue and inventory risks associated with the European Unions RoHS/WEEE directives. Although most companies have already begun to address technical compliance issues associated with these two directives, industry experts believe that spot shortages in components and capacity throughout the electronics supply chain will lead to a revenue shortfall for many OEMs. Even companies that are exempt from this regulation will be affected as their supply base goes through the RoHS transformation.

When it comes to the RoHS/WEEE planning and execution, good things do not come to those who wait," said John Holton, Symphonys Co-founder and CEO. The transition to RoHS compliance has the makings of a 'perfect storm for the supply chain. As component suppliers revamp their products, contract manufacturers retool their manufacturing lines, and OEMs change many of their products, there will be an unprecedented level of change and turmoil in a very compressed period of time. Our workshop is geared towards those companies that want solutions and methodologies to proactively protect themselves from the upcoming supply chain disruptions."

This workshop, called "Transitioning Your Supply Chain for RoHS/WEEE Compliance" is currently scheduled for June 22 in Santa Clara, CA. More sessions will be scheduled for later in 2005.
