L'Essence Art Gallery (http://www.lessenceartgallery.com), located in West Roxbury, Massachusetts, fosters an international atmosphere with works of art from around the world.
The reception will screen Dr. YangÂs first feature film, Feuille, in which she is the screenwriter, director, and leading actress. Feuille (Leaf), has won eleven awards, including Best Drama at the New York International Independent Film & Video Festival in Los Angeles, 2004 and Top (Platinum) Remi Award at the 37th World-Fest Houston International Film Festival, 2004, Accolade Award, Aegis Award, NewTV Award, and Communicator Award.
Dr. Youxin Yang, M.D., Ph.D. is an award-winning scientist, award-winning painter, and award-winning filmmaker.
Youxin started her career in China and then advanced her education in France where she was awarded a prize from the Association for the Study of Pediatric Pathology in 2000 for her work on the WT1 Gene in Denys Drash Syndrome and Diffuse Mesangial Sclerosis. She came to the United States to do cancer research at Harvard Medical School in 2001 and has recently given an oral presentation entitled, ÂGenetic instability is an early event that occurs before changes in tumor suppressor p53 and APC during cancer progression in BarrettÂs esophagus at the 2004 95th annual meeting of American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) on March 29 in Orlando, Florida.
In her spare time, she loves creating art through painting and film. The prestigious Gallery of Espace Richelieu in Paris has twice featured her work in solo exhibitions. Bernard Boscher, President of the Espace Richelieu, described the artist in this way: ÂThe painter, sometimes abstract, sometimes figurative, Youxin Yang, is above all else an authentic artist who follows neither a school nor contemporary movement. In each of her works one finds a personal vision, arousing in the viewer the pleasure of ÂBeauty with sweetness and enchantment. Dr. YangÂs recent work, available in book form at http://www.amazon.com, is a post-modern attempt to show the movement and beauty of human emotion shared between present and absent subjects. Her paintings are now beginning to gain recognition in the United States, with recent solo exhibitions at the Wellesley Free Library (from May 4th to 28th, 2004), and the Cape Cod Community Media Center Gallery (from June 4th to July 2nd, 2004).
YouxinÂs career path shows that there does not need to be a separation between science and art. Quality in one field does not need to be sacrificed to maintain quality in the other. YouxinÂs accomplishments in scientific research and in artistic expression are prime examples. In fact, excelling in one can actually intensify the quality of the other as ÂYouxinÂs research inspires her art and her art inspires her research.Â
The Spirit and Passion art collection will be displayed at L'Essence Art Gallery from July 2nd to 30th, 2005. The art reception for Dr. YangÂs collection will be held there on July 9th 4-8pm (for hours/directions, see http://www.lessenceartgallery.com).
