New digital channel focuses on local weather forecasts for Eastern Iowa cities.

KWWL has partnered with NBC to be part of the first national all-digital broadcast network called Weather Plus. KWWL Weather Plus is a live, local weather channel powered by the meteorologist of Storm Team 7 and featuring on-demand local conditions and forecasts 24-hours-a-day.

KWWL Weather Plus is currently available on digital broadcast channel 7-2. The live, local weather network will be available on local cable outlets starting in June. The new weather brings with it the power of NBC and its affiliates along with trusted local meteorologists and reporters.

“This is an incredible opportunity for KWWL and all of the Storm Team 7 meteorologists,” said KWWL Chief Meteorologist Ian Leonard. “What we are offering is a chance to tap into local weather 24-7. We’ll also be going wall-to-wall on weather plus when the big storms hit.”

KWWL Weather Plus draws from the weather forecasting competencies and experience of Ian Leonard, Mark Schnackenberg and Jeff Kennedy. Storm Team 7 is the proven leader for bringing Eastern Iowa viewers important information in weather emergency. With Weather Plus KWWL takes weather leadership to a new level with a product that is immediate, relevant and found no place else in this market.

“KWWL Weather Plus will differentiate itself from The Weather Channel in that it provides local talent, local wall-to-wall emergency weather coverage,” said Dale Woods, KWWL Vice President and General Manager. “We’ll also have local radar, live shots from our weather cams, and weather-related items like local traffic and travel coverage.”

All of KWWL’s weathercasters are meteorologists and they are the most watched weather team in Eastern Iowa.
