B. K. S. Iyengar to Visit the United States this Fall - Michelangelo of Yoga" to Appear in Five Cities - Historic Book Tour and Celebration: Light on Life 2005

B.K.S. Iygengar, one of the world's great yoga teachers and a living legend will be coming to America this fall in a rare visit. He will speak at major events in five cities in conjunction with the release of his new book LIGHT ON LIFE.

(PRWEB) June 14, 2005 -- B. K. S. Iyengar is widely considered to be the worlds greatest living yoga teacher and, more than any single person, responsible for the huge popularity of yoga in the West. Last year, Time Magazine named him as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. This fall, Mr. Iyengar will make an historic visit to the United States, from September 26 to October 20, 2005.

This visit celebrates the release of Mr. Iyengars fourth major book, Light on Life: The Yoga Journey to Wholeness, Inner Peace, and Ultimate Freedom (Rodale Hardcover); honors Mr. Iyengars enormous contribution to the spread of traditional yoga; and marks the 50th anniversary of his teaching in the United States.

Light on Yoga, Mr. Iyengars first book published in 1966, is often called the bible of yoga" and is the most popular yoga book ever written, translated into 17 languages. Now Mr. Iyengar has written what may be the his final and most important book, LIGHT ON LIFE, a synthesis of lessons learned over his 70 years of disciplined daily practice that explains the heart of the life-transforming yoga journey.

During Light on Life 2005," Mr. Iyengar will make major appearances in San Francisco (10/3), Los Angeles (10/5), Boston (10/9), New York (10/14), Washington, D.C. (10/18), and at the 10th Annual Yoga Journal Colorado Conference (9/26 -- 10/2). This tour is a singular opportunity to experience the wisdom of a true legend. Mr. Iyengar spends most of his time at his yoga institute in India and rarely travels anymore. His last visit to the United States was 12 years ago. At 86 years old, Mr. Iyengar has said that this will be his final trip to America.

For this new generation of yoga students, the name Iyengar is legendary, but they have never seen him in person. Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend sold-out events in the tour cities and hundreds of Iyengar centers will also join in a day of celebration during the tour. The schedule of Light on Life 2005 is available at -- www.lightonlife.org.

Mr. Iyengar has dedicated his life teaching the ancient art of yoga to the modern world. Mr. Iyengars first trip to America, for a performance in Washington, D.C., was captured by a photographer from Life Magazine. Then, yoga was considered exotic and foreign. A half century later, yogas popularity is soaring. According to the most recent Yoga Journal survey, 16 million Americans practice yoga on a regular basis. There are now thousands of Iyengar yoga centers around the world. Yoga is a multi-billion dollar industry with new studios opening daily across the country. Yoga is now is mainstream and everywhere.
