Minno & Wasko Architects and Planners win two New Jersey Smart Growth Awards

Minno & Wasko Architects and Planners of Lambertville, N.J., recently won a pair of New Jersey Smart Growth Awards for the firm's work on large-scale redevelopment projects in Princeton and Cranford.

(PRWEB) June 19, 2005 -- Minno & Wasko Architects and Planners of Lambertville, N.J., recently won a pair of New Jersey Smart Growth Awards for the firm's work on large-scale redevelopment projects in Princeton and Cranford.

Presented annually by New Jersey Future, a nonprofit that promotes managed growth as outlined under the State Plan, the awards honor projects that help build a strong economy, healthy environment and a just society.

Minno & Wasko, which has more than 30 years experience in residential and mixed-use development, has participated in urban redevelopment projects throughout the state.

The Princeton redevelopment project was lauded for the high level of collaboration involved and the transformation of two surface parking lots into "a community destination" featuring retail shops, apartments and a public plaza.

The long list of participants included Minno & Wasko, developer Nassau HKT Associates LLC, the Borough of Princeton, the Princeton Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Princeton University School of Architecture and citizens' group Princeton Future.

This was one of the most exciting projects Ive worked on in years," said David J. Minno, a principal with Minno & Wasko. So many good ideas were put forth. The real challenge was picking out the best ones and incorporating them into the final design. It was like a gigantic puzzle."

The Cranford Crossing project was honored for establishing a transit village adjacent to the downtown commuter station.

The first major development project in Cranford in 100 years, the project brought condominiums and shopping to the area.

"History was important to the design of this project," said Minno. "It reflects the Cranford of yesteryear while providing space for new residents, new businesses and parking to stimulate the town's economy."
