In a recent interview with the "Charlotte Post" Milner talks about her motivation for writing. Every child should be able to read a mainstream book and see their story," she said.

Children of Plains Estates" is a book of inclusiveness. It crosses racial and economic lines of division. Its goal is to bring light to the struggles and victories of children. My goal is to break down the barriers that separate us by forcing the reader to confront their own stereotypes and bigotries. Aids, racism, child molestation, drugs, alcoholism, domestic violence, are not issues that happen to other people. They are issues that affect all of us. The purpose of this book is to begin the dialogue in order to confront the issues.
