(PRWEB) June 24, 2005 -- Knitting is becoming ever more popular and more and more young people are wanting to learn this ancient craft. The 21st century solution is to learn on the Internet.
A new website, www.TheKnittingSite.com has free videos showing exactly how to knit in the Continental style. The site, launched just a few weeks ago is the work of Penny Dablin, a continental knitter for 40 years, from Aylesbury, England.
My mother taught me continental knitting when I was a tiny child and I wanted to pass on my skills to the new generation of knitters today.
Continental knitting is much quicker than English knitting so you have the satisfaction of completed items so much sooner."
Knitting has become much more popular since 9/11 with people wanting an escape from the frenetic pace of life. It is very calming and keeps you grounded in the present moment. With knitting you get to create things of lasting value, which is a great antidote to the instant, disposable nature of much of life these days." says Penny.
Continental knitting, sometimes called German knitting, is where the yarn is held in the left hand and 'picked with the working needle. With English knitting, the yarn is held in the right hand and 'thrown for every stitch.
The website also has free knitting graph paper available for download for anyone who wants to design knitting patterns with stitches in the right proportion. I found it so disappointing when I knitted up a picture Id planned on graph paper to find it looked all squashed so I sat down and drew up the rectangular graph paper." Penny remarked.
Penny is planning to add many more onsite videos with more advanced skills and techniques over the next few months.
