When comic strip legend Cathy Guisewite, the creator of the ÂCathy comic strip (the real-life Cathy), and her fiancé Irving recently got married, they never imagined that their wedding gift registry would raise $25,000 for orphaned dogs and cats!
Thanks to a partnership between Portland-based TheBigDay.com, the largest online honeymoon gift registry in the world, and Guisewhite, a special wedding gift registry was created for the comic book couple that suggested to their wedding guests, friends and family that they make a donation to Pet Orphans of Southern California, instead of giving them traditional wedding or honeymoon gifts. Guisewite explained that as a more mature couple, Cathy and Irving had just about all they needed, so instead of registering for gifts, they decided to make a difference in the lives of orphaned dogs and cats by registering for donations to help the dogs and cats.
ÂTheBigDay.com, and TheBigDayTravel.com, which plans and books online honeymoon travel and activities for engaged couples has become a new 21st century wedding traditionÂ, according to Jeff Beard, a spokesperson for TheBigDay. ÂOur online registry expertise made it a natural for us to use our technology to help Cathy and Irving help their 4-legged friends.Â
The result was more than $25,000 was donated by Cathy and IrvingÂs friends and family through their gift registry with TheBigDay.com. At a wedding reception on June 12 at Pet Orphans of Southern California, a check was presented to the happy recipients.
