2 Latina Filmmakers Raffle off a Date to Fund Film
Fanny Veliz and Risa Machuca are selling raffle tickets to raise funds for the production of their next film entitled "Shortstop"
(PRWEB) June 25, 2005 -- Fanny Veliz and Risa Machuca are 2 aspiring Latina Filmmakers. To fund their next short film entitled "Shortstop" they came up with the idea to raffle off a date with the both of them.
They have been successful in creating interest about their project before it has even gone into production.
"...why not use our sex appeal to get something good accomplished..." says Veliz.
"Shortstop" tells the story of 2 women who find out they have been dating the same man. It deals with the issues that affect Latinas in a suburban setting and how modern views sometimes get in the way of cultural values and traditions.
Fanny has directed several short films. Her latest project called "3some" is to premiere in New York in August, at the La Cinema Fe film festival. Risa has directed music videos for the likes of Michael Bolton and Jenni Rivera, to name a few. She was featured in the June issue of Latina Magazine.
"We're just trying to make an imprint in Hollywood...we want the media to reflect the realities of our community and no one else is going to do it for us..." said Veliz, who's originally from Venezuela.
"Look at a town like Los Angeles...all you see is diversity...but that's definitely not what you see on the screen..." reaffirmed Machuca, who's a native of Mexico and grew up in New York.
