Leslie J. Bostic, Vice President, Human Resources for SBLI USA Mutual Life Insurance Company, Inc. Receives Network Journal's 40-Under-Forty" Award

The event honored 40 African-American business professionals, all under 40 for excellence in their professions and in entrepreneurship. Ms. Bostic lives in Livingston, New Jersey and works at our Newark Operations Center, where she manages all day to day operations of the human resource function across five locations (New York City, Newark, Buffalo, Chicago and Puerto Rico). In addition, she is extremely involved in her community. Ms. Bostic recently received her masters degree in business administration from New York University. Bostic, vice president, human resources for SBLI USA Mutual Life Insurance Company, Inc., was presented with a 40-Under-Forty" Achievement Award last night from The Network Journal at the magazines Eighth Annual 40-Under-Forty" Achievement Awards ceremony held at Columbia Universitys Alfred Lerner Hall in New York City.

The event honors 40 African-American business professionals, all under the age of 40, for excellence in business, demonstrating a passion for achieving higher goals and commitment to community. The Network Journal is a publication dedicated to educating and empowering Black professionals and small business owners. A resident of Livingston, New Jersey, Ms. Bostic is featured in the magazines June issue.

As vice president, human resources for SBLI USA, Ms. Bostic manages all day-to-day operations of the human resource function at the Company across five locations (New York City, Newark, Buffalo, Chicago and Puerto Rico), with a budget exceeding $2.2 million. She also oversees the payroll function, ensures compliance with regulatory and statutory issues, and is responsible for the training, development and performance management functions within the organization. She is also an active member of the Companys Steering Team, a cross-functional leadership team responsible for the ongoing operations of the Company.

In addition to her impressive professional experience, Ms. Bostic is also an active member of her community. She volunteers with WOMEN Unlimited, a national organization that addresses career development needs of achievement-orientated women at different stages of their careers. At WOMEN Unlimited, she is a co-mentor for the groups LEAD (Leadership Education And Development) program, which offers unique cross-industry leadership programs for mid-level managers.

Other organizations Ms. Bostic volunteers with include The Box Project, a national organization helping poverty stricken families become self sufficient; The Food Bank of New Jersey; Habitat for Humanity; and Camp Junior, the Newark Museums childrens program. She also has served as a volunteer and project leader for Hudson Cradle, a nursery in Jersey City for children who are either homeless or whose mothers are in treatment for substance abuse.

Ms. Bostic, who received a bachelors degree in economics and English and American literature from Brown University and her masters degree in business administration from New York University, credits her family with much of her success.

My family is a constant inspiration to me," she said. My mother and father emigrated from Trinidad, West Indies and never had the opportunity to go to college. They made sure my brother and I always did our homework, worked hard, played nice with others and lived our lives in ways that would make us proud."
