World-renowned organization selects performance management tool to help meet strategic goals.

GroteApproach Ltd.( announced today that Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI) has completed the implementation of the GroteApproach SM Web-based performance management system. Developed by performance management expert, Dick Grote, this online performance review solution delivers a proven approach to handling employee evaluations.

Previously, Churchill Downs Incorporated relied on a paper-based system for performance management. CDI recognized the need for change following a time of explosive growth when the company expanded to encompass seven racetracks and nearly two dozen off-track betting facilities across the country.

“We were looking for a tool that would provide consistency throughout the company. Before implementing GroteApproach, our supervisors were involved in employee reviews but few were trained in how to do them, and we had a myriad of different grading systems,” explained Thomas Meeker, president and chief executive officer of CDI.

CDI’s strategic plan called for improvements in the company’s management development system. “One of the primary drivers in selecting a new performance appraisal system was to find a tool that could help us define and enhance the skill sets that would allow people to grow within our organization,” Meeker noted. “We commissioned a team of middle and junior managers within the company to identify a good performance management solution. One of the teams found GroteApproach and presented the idea to senior management. We were impressed by its features – especially its management tools – and believe this system offers a best of class approach that is efficient and understandable.”

The system ties an organization’s goals, mission statement, vision and values to performance management in order to achieve critical organizational objectives.
