Fast-Rising Comedian Tony George Is In Negotiations For His Own TV Show
Brash young comedian is being courted by cable networks for a weekly half-hour comedy show.
(PRWEB) June 29, 2005 -- With the out-of-nowhere success of his first comedy cd, "Red, White, and Off-Color," his ability to connect with the Heartland of America and foreign markets, Comedian Tony George (www.comediantonygeorge.com) is being courted by certain cable television networks to produce and star in his own weekly series.
Right now, cable networks are bemoaning the lack of shows headlined by comedians that are making an imprint. "Besides Chappelle, who's out there?" one insider noted.
One of the sketches from the pilot episode is already available for viewing and download at his website, www.comediantonygeorge.com.
Comedian Tony George's high-powered gameplan, while being kept under wraps, is going to be decidedly international in scope and flavor.
"World events, for sure, which I love, especially the cavemen we're duking it out with for survival, will be part of the show," Tony said. "Also some sketches and short comedy films from all over the world, and Baywatch-type scenery, if you get my drift," Tony laughed.
"I'm wondering what they'll let me get away with. So you might end up watching us on Cinemax at 3AM, but it'll be worth it, I promise."
The show, tentatively titled, "The Tony George Show," will most likely be based out of his home in Dallas, Texas, to make it easier for guest stars to travel from either American coast.
"I'd like to interview some international figures, but we have to get to them quick. I'm not sure they'll have the courage to come on the show after they see the first episode. It's one of...maybe the only...advantage of being a virtually unknown comic."
Tony cites icons Charlie Chaplin and Benny Hill as influencing his ideas for the show. "Benny Hill's strategic use of the bikini in virtually every sketch is bliss to me. It's like when fancy people look at an expensive painting. It just inspires."
Comedian Tony George has been doing standup in comedy clubs across America, has written a syndicated newspaper humor column, and has written a few screenplays, but this is his first time in front of the camera for television.
"People don't know what they're in for," Tony joked.
