This past Sunday marked the six month anniversary of the tsunami that devastated the lives of millions throughout south east Asia, including Sri Lanka. California Waterscapes, a Los Angeles based water garden designer, has joined forces with The Sri Lanka Foundation to raise funds for their ongoing tsunami relief efforts.
On July 9th and 10th, California Waterscapes is sponsoring their annual water garden showcase, ÂThe Parade of Ponds. The Sri Lanka Foundation is one of 9 charities selling tickets to the popular self-guided tour. In previous years, California Waterscapes selected a single charity to donate the proceeds. However this year, Terry Morrill, owner of California Waterscapes, has agreed to give each charity interested in participating 100% of the proceeds from all tickets they sell.
In December 2004, The Sri Lanka Foundation, headquartered in Los Angeles, immediately rallied communities throughout the United States to provide medical care for the victims of the disaster and sent over teams of medical personnel. After immediate medical needs were fulfilled, the Sri Lanka Foundation continued its dedication to the people of Sri Lanka as they entered Phase II of their relief efforts to provide care to tsunami survivors.
The Parade of Ponds is a rare opportunity for ticket purchasers to view some of Southern CaliforniaÂs most beautiful private backyard water gardens. The bulk of this yearÂs tour is concentrated in the San Fernando Valley and includes over 20 homes. Each ticket is good for the entire weekend and are only $15 each (children 12 and under are free).
